Fair Copyright Licensing Alliance

As the name suggests FCLA stands for fairness in copyright licensing. We support the efforts of all creators and their right to receive fair remuneration for the fruits of their labour. But we believe that this should be on a fair, transparent and reasonable basis. Where this is not the case we are here to help.

What We Do

We support businesses, trade associations and other users of copyright to receive fair, transparent and speedy licensing.

We resolve audits and disputes, contest excessive demands, and reduce ongoing licence costs through direct negotiation with collecting societies such as PRS for Music, MCPS, PPL, PPL PRS, MPLC, AVLA, NLA and DACS.

We advise on licensing strategy and compliance, making sure you only pay what is fair, reasonable and transparent. And when multiple businesses face the same issue, we coordinate collective representation to force meaningful change.

Our clients are drawn from all sectors and use a multitude of different copyright works.

Why It Matters

Too often, copyright licence fees go unchallenged — even when they’re inaccurate or unreasonable. Faced with a lack of transparency and lack of knowledge about what they need to pay, businesses feel that they have no choice but to pay the demands of these collecting societies.

But that’s not true.

We’ve helped clients cut licensing costs by an average of 19%, avoid penalties, resolve long-standing disputes, and secure new terms that reflect reality — not guesswork.

If you’re paying licence fees, facing an audit, or simply unsure whether you’re getting a fair deal, we can help.

Who We Are

FCLA is led by three senior professionals with decades of experience in licensing coordination, copyright law, and industry negotiation.

Rob Gilbert has saved millions for businesses across music, retail and hospitality by identifying flaws in tariffs and audits that others miss.

Nick Kounoupias is one of the UK’s foremost copyright lawyers, known for defending businesses and shaping IP law at the highest levels.

John White is a seasoned negotiator and trade body leader who’s secured sector-wide licensing agreements and knows how collecting societies operate.

Together, we’ve helped companies in hospitality, leisure, retail, sports, print and design cut costs, reduce risk, and fight back against bad practice.
